Cortijo la Loma Granero and Cortijo la Loma Villa, are located just 6km from Íllora and the surrounding area forms part of the Poniente de Granada region, the most western part of the Province of Granada.

The region is rich in areas of archaeological interest and is encircled by the Sierra of Cordoba to the north, the Axarquia of Malaga to the South and to the west, the Valleys of Archidona and Antequera.

City of Granada

The City of Granada is less than a 30 minutes drive from our holiday villas and the City´s Albayzín area, with its Islamic style architecture, is an area of beauty, where trailing plants adorn a myriad balconies and scent of flowers spills over the many garden walls.

The Albayzín area of the City can be reached either by climbing aboard one of the small minibuses, behind the Cathedral, or walking up one of the cobbled streets off Plaza Nueva. The minibuses, which run every ten minutes or so, will take you up to the Mirador de San Nicolas. The plaza is a busy spot for tourists and provides an ideal vantage point from which to photograph the Alhambra Palace against the backdrop of the Sierra Nevada.

Alhama de Granada

Alhama de Granada is perched on the edge of deep ravine above the Rio Alhama and is renowned for it's thermal water springs which have been channeled into spa baths since Roman times.

During the summer months, visitors to Alhama de Granada may visit the town's Muslim horse shoe spas. At other times of the year visitors may take a short walk into the woodland, just a short distance from the centre of Alhama de Granada, in order to visit and sample the natural hot water springs and pool which are open to the public all year round.

Alhambra Palace

The Alhambra Palace overlooks the City of Granada and is an entire citadel comprised of palaces, baths, a fortress, a mosque and the beautiful Generalife Gardens.

The magnificence of the Alhambra Palace enables visitors to spend time gazing into the past of this wondrous location as well as daydreaming of the times ahead.

Antequera

The beautiful and historic town of Antequera is only a 45 minutes drive from our holiday villas and makes for a great day out.

Antequera offers visitors a wide number of sightseeing opportunities ranging from dolmens, to baroque bell towers and from Roman baths to Renaissance fountains.

Whilst visiting Antequera, guests may also wish to take the short drive to El Torcal Nature Reserve in order to view the wind swept and unusual limestone rock formations.

Bermejales

In our opinion, Bermejales is a beautiful location at which to either take a relaxing stroll, enjoy a picnic or participate in a range of active leisure pursuits, so whether guests wish to relax and enjoy a picnic and perhaps get to grips with canoeing or archery we thoroughly recommend this idyllic Andalucian location.

For guests who are more interested in a relaxed approach to exploring the surrounding countryside - Alhama de Granada is just a short drive from Las Bermejales.

Córdoba

The City of Córdoba and the world famous Mezquita is just a two hours drive from our holiday villas and make for a great day out.

En route guests may wish to visit the beautiful town of Priego de Córdoba.

Costa Tropical

The Costa Tropical is where the Andalucian Province of Granada meets the Mediterranean Sea and makes for a perfect day down on the beach - being just a 90 minutes drive from our holiday villas, as the Costa Tropical offers a number of different beaches and quiet coves.

Some guests may wish to spend the entire day relaxing upon the beach, taking the occasional cooling dip in the Mediterranean or perhaps exploring the local nearby towns of Almuñécar, Salobreña or Motril.

Íllora

The town/pueblo of Íllora is less than a 10 minute drive from our villas; the town has many amenities including bars, cafés, supermarkets, banks and of course a weekly market.

The pueblo of Íllora is included in two of the routes of the "Legado Andalusí"; - the Route of Washington Irving and Route of Califat. The pueblo's castle, though now in a ruinous condition, dates back to the Califat period and dominates the Íllora horizon as it nestles upon the giant outcrop of rocks in the centre of Íllora.

During the last week of July the pueblo of Íllora holds the annual Parapanda Folk Music Festival, whilst during the second week of August the pueblo celebrates the annual fiesta.

Loja

The historic town of Loja is just a 30 minutes drive from our holiday villas.

The town's origins stretch back in history and as a consequence of Loja's strategic location, being on the main route between eastern and western Andalucia, Loja has been home to many different settlers.

During the period of Islamic occupation the town of Loja flourished; and some of Loja's finest architecture was constructed during the 16th & 17th centuries.

Moclín

The quaint white village of Moclín is situated in the north of the Poniente Granadino (Western Granada) region and is just a short drive, less than 20 minutes, from our holiday villas.

The small village of Moclín is the highest village within Western Granada region, and at an altitude of 1,107m the views from the castle ruins are simply stunning.

Alternatively, if you simply fancy a leisurely drive out one evening, why not take the short drive to Moclín, on a Friday or Saturday evening when the village's castle and church are illuminated.

Montefrío

Montefrío is a beautiful rural village situated to the North West of Íllora, just a 30 minutes drive from our holiday villas, remains typically Moorish in character, and the ruins of a Moorish castle sits near the highest point.

As Montefrío is situated midway between the Sierra de Priego and Sierra Parapanda, and has a commanding the open valley between these ranges, it became one of the chief frontier fortresses of the Moors in the 15th century.

On the road between Montefrío and Íllora visitors are able to visit the Neolithic Dolmens at "La Peña de los Gitanos" - one of the most important sites of archaeological interest in the Province of Granada.

Priego de Córdoba

Priego de Córdoba is a beautiful town and although situated within the Province of Córdoba is within easy reach of our holiday villas in Western Granada.

The town, which once profited from silk and textile, boasts some fine examples of baroque churches.

Torcal

The El Torcal Nature Reserve in order to view the wind swept and unusual limestone rock formations.

Guests may also wish to take the short drive from El Torcal to the beautiful and historic town of Antequera is only a 45 minutes drive from our holiday villas and makes for a great day out.
